Inspiration–Steve McQueen
The roots of my admiration of Steve McQueen come from what I’ve seen on the movie screen – the quintessential American badass who is quiet, confident and a true competitor. In my favorite movie, Le Mans, you can see McQueen’s passion for racing pour out into his acting. While the movie has very few spoken lines, the actions and emotions of the characters combined with the intense racing shots totally engrossed me the first time I saw it – long before I had ever competed on the track. Looking back at it now, I wonder if I wasn’t influenced by it somehow.
Known as the King of Cool, McQueen’s life was encapsulated by a genuine love of cars, the outdoors, and one of Hollywood’s few stars who’s lifestyle reflected the characters he played in his films. The attached LIFE magazine story captures the essence of a true America Icon – Steve McQueen.
